Old music meets jazz, composition meets improvisation, old instruments meet unheard sounds, the Middle Ages meets world music, portative meets sheng, choral meets tango, classical music meets groove, sound space meets spatial sound.
Volker Jaekel: Organ, Portative (portable, medieval organ)
Gert Anklam: Saxophones, Sheng (Chinese mouth organ)
The Berlin musicians create a wide arc in their program, spanning from early music to jazz, while connecting our different musical influences. Unusual arrangements of old chorales, original compositions influenced by collaboration with musicians from other cultures, orchestral soundscapes on the organ, and captivating improvisations will be played. In the concert, they will also perform with two small and rare organs. These are the Chinese mouth organ Sheng and the medieval Portative.
In their repertoire, they have arrangements of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Edward Grieg, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Steve Lacy, Astor Piazzolla, and others.
An exciting musical journey through different times and styles!
The musicians had great success in Frutigen in April 2023 and are touring internationally with their concerts.
“A dreamlike fusion of organ sound and saxophone, beyond common clichés, a musical journey through the world to oneself.”
