SCHOTTENROCK MIT SCHWEIZER RÖHRE

Mit kernigen Rocksongs und traumhaften Balladen haben sich Nazareth in den letzten 58 Jahren weltweit einen Namen gemacht. Seit Ende 2025 haucht ein Schweizer Frontmann der altgedienten Truppe frischen Atem ein: Der Basler Gianni Pontillo ist die neue Stimme bei den Überschotten. Er freut sich auf ein hochemotionales Heimspiel im Pratteler Rocktempel.

1968 in der schottischen Stadt Dunfermline gegründet, zählen Nazareth mit Kollegen wie Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep und Black Sabbath zur ersten Hard’n’Heavy-Generation der Musikgeschichte. Mit knapp 60 Millionen verkauften Tonträgern weltweit sind Nazareth neben den Simple Minds die international erfolgreichste Musikgruppe Schottlands. An ihrer Spitze steht seit dem letzten Dezember Gianni Pontillo. Der Basler hat sich in den vergangenen dreissig Jahren mit Pure Inc, The Order, Fun Halen, Pontillo & The Vintage Crew oder zuletzt auch bei den deutschen Heavy-Rockern Victory einen Namen gemacht. Nun folgt mit Nazareth der nächste Karriereschritt. Bassist Pete Agnew, das letzte verbliebene Originalmitglied der Rock-Institution, hat Gianni Ende 2025 erstmals kontaktiert. „Pete hat mich persönlich angerufen, nachdem ihm jemand aus der Szene ein Video von mir zugesandt hatte. Ich konnte es kaum glauben. Die Kultband Nazareth. Die legendären Mitbegründer des Hardrock. Ich kenne und liebe diese Band seit meiner Kindheit. Ich sah meine Eltern zu ‚Love Hurts’ durchs Wohnzimmer tanzen und sie hatten sogar eine ‚Greatest Hits’-Scheibe von Nazareth in ihrer Plattensammlung.“

Mittlerweile haben Nazareth gemeinsam mit Pontillo schon einige Konzerte gespielt und der Neuling fühlt sich pudelwohl in seiner neuen Rolle: „Es ist einfach super! Die Jungs von der Band, die Crew und das ganze Umfeld sind echt der Hammer. Respekt ist hier das A und O. Das trifft man heutzutage im Musik-Business nur noch sehr selten an.“ Die Reaktionen der Fans sind ebenfalls sehr positiv. „Ich habe schon ganz viele Die Hard Fans getroffen und alle sind sehr happy mit mir als neuem Frontmann. Sie haben mir auch schon einige spannende Geschichten über die Band und den Original-Sänger Dan McCafferty erzählt.“ Die zeitlosen Klassiker von Nazareth zu interpretieren macht Pontillo grossen Spass. Auf die Frage nach persönlichen Favoriten antwortet er: „Ich mag eigentlich alle Songs. Aber ‚Hair Of The Dog’ und ‚Whiskey Drinkin’ Woman’ sind schon zwei absolute Highlights. Der Eine hat einen richtig geilen Rock Groove, der Andere ist eine Hammer Blues-Nummer mit einem sehr witzigen Text. Pete und ich singen hier unisono und unsere Stimmen harmonieren einfach perfekt.“ Im November kommt Pontillo mit seiner neuen Band erstmals nach Pratteln. Ein ganz spezieller Moment für den Sänger: „Das Z7 ist meine Heimat, ich bin sozusagen mit dem Lokal gross geworden. Hier habe ich mein allererstes Konzert besucht und auch schon sehr oft im Vorprogramm von grossartigen Bands gespielt. Der Laden ist Kult, soundmässig erste Sahne und das ganze Team ist einfach mega. Ich freue mich jetzt schon auf dieses Konzert. Es wird sehr emotional, denn Freunde und Familie werden alle da sein. Das wird ein grossartiges Fest.“

With hearty rock songs and dreamy ballads, Nazareth has made a name for themselves worldwide over the last 58 years. Since the end of 2025, a Swiss frontman has breathed new life into the veteran band: Basel's Gianni Pontillo is the new voice of the Scots. He looks forward to an extremely emotional home game at the Pratteler rock temple.

Founded in 1968 in the Scottish town of Dunfermline, Nazareth is counted among the first hard and heavy generation of music history alongside colleagues like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Black Sabbath. With nearly 60 million records sold worldwide, Nazareth is, alongside Simple Minds, the most successful music group from Scotland internationally. At the helm since last December is Gianni Pontillo. The Basel native has made a name for himself over the past thirty years with bands like Pure Inc, The Order, Fun Halen, Pontillo & The Vintage Crew, and most recently with the German heavy rockers Victory. Now, with Nazareth, the next career step follows. Bassist Pete Agnew, the last remaining original member of the rock institution, contacted Gianni for the first time at the end of 2025. "Pete personally called me after someone from the scene had sent him a video of me. I could hardly believe it. The cult band Nazareth. The legendary co-founders of hard rock. I have known and loved this band since my childhood. I saw my parents dancing to 'Love Hurts' in the living room, and they even had a 'Greatest Hits' record by Nazareth in their vinyl collection."

Meanwhile, Nazareth has already played several concerts with Pontillo, and the newcomer feels perfectly at home in his new role: "It's just great! The guys from the band, the crew, and the whole environment are really awesome. Respect is the be-all and end-all here. You rarely find that in the music business these days." The fans' reactions are also very positive. "I have already met a lot of die-hard fans, and all are very happy with me as the new frontman. They have already shared some exciting stories about the band and the original singer Dan McCafferty." Interpreting Nazareth's timeless classics brings Pontillo great joy. When asked about personal favorites, he responds: "I actually like all the songs. But 'Hair Of The Dog' and 'Whiskey Drinkin’ Woman' are two absolute highlights. One has a really cool rock groove, the other is a killer blues number with a very funny lyric. Pete and I sing here in unison, and our voices simply harmonize perfectly." In November, Pontillo will come to Pratteln with his new band for the first time. A very special moment for the singer: "The Z7 is my home, I practically grew up with the venue. Here I attended my very first concert and have often played in the supporting act of great bands. The place is legendary, the sound is top-notch, and the whole team is just amazing. I’m already looking forward to this concert. It will be very emotional, as friends and family will all be there. It will be a great celebration."
